Lewandowski’s brace insufficient as Barcelona lose on penalties against AC Milan
Barcelona concluded their USA pre-season tour with a 2-2 draw against AC Milan, but lost 4-3 on penalties on Wednesday morning.
The game added to a series that included a draw with Manchester City and a win over Real Madrid.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona struggled initially, with Christian Pulisic assisting Luka Jovic for Milan’s first goal at the 10-minute mark.
Pulisic then converted a Rafael Leao assist to double Milan’s lead, as Barcelona’s defense found it hard to cope with Leao and Samuel Chukwueze.
The Catalan side eventually responded after increased pressing.
Robert Lewandowski capitalized on a defensive lapse to score from distance. However, They were later denied a goal following fine interplay between Victor and Lewandowski.
In the second half, it was Victor’s turn to provided assist to Lewandowski for the equalizer.
Despite numerous substitutions in the final half hour, Barcelona dominated possession but failed to create any danger.
The match ended 2-2, with Milan winning the subsequent penalty shootout.
