Pep Guardiola acknowledges Julián Álvarez’s concerns over playing time

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that Julián Álvarez is reconsidering his future at the club.

This follows the Argentina striker’s desire to play more “important games.”

Despite featuring in 54 games across all competitions last season, the 24-year-old World Cup winner expressed dissatisfaction with his playing time during key matches.

Atlético Madrid has shown interest in Álvarez, who has stated that he will make a decision regarding his future after competing for Argentina at the Olympics.

Guardiola commented on the situation, saying, “I knew that he [Álvarez] said that he is going to think about it.

“When he finishes thinking about it, his agent is going to call [City football director] Txiki [Begiristain] and we are going to see what happens.”

Guardiola emphasized the competitive nature of the squad, noting, “I know he wants to play in important moments but the others [do] too.

“I have 18 or 19 players that want to play important games. He played a lot but if he wants more, it’s fine. When he thinks about it he’ll inform us.”
