Chelsea manager Maresca addresses Fernandez controversy, reveals Nkunku’s versatility in first presser
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed various topics in his first press conference ahead of the club’s first pre-season match in the USA.
Maresca is confident in Christopher Nkunku’s ability to play different positions on the pitch, stating, “Nkunku can play everywhere. He’s doing very well already.
“He can play number 9, winger, attacking midfielder. He can play everywhere. I see football with players able to play in several positions.”
The manager also commented on the recent controversy involving Enzo Fernandez, who was criticized for a racist chant following Argentina’s Copa America victory.
“I don’t think there will be problems with Enzo Fernandez when he returns. There were no bad intentions, I spoke with Enzo. It’s all clear now,” Maresca explained.
“Enzo has apologized, there’s no problem at all. The player made a statement and apologized, and the club also gave a statement. The situation is clear.”
Chelsea’s pre-season tour kicks off with a match against Wrexham on Thursday, followed by a clash with Celtic two days later.
These games are part of Chelsea’s preparation for the upcoming season under Maresca’s new management.
