Confirmed: Man City’s Alvarez named in Argentina’s Olympics squad

Julian Álvarez has been named alongside four World Cup winners in Argentina’s 2024 Olympics football squad.

The country’s coach Javier Mascherano named the Manchester City star, including veteran Benfica defender Nicolás Otamendi, to Argentina’s squad for the Paris Olympics later this summer.

Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami, was not included after previously stating that participating in the Olympics would be “too much” given his busy schedule.

Messi, dealing with injuries this year, is competing alongside Álvarez and Otamendi in the Copa América, where Argentina aims to defend their 2021 title.
