Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernandez departs after 23 years

Real Madrid have confirmed the departure of their captain, Nacho Fernandez, after an illustrious 23-year career with the club.

Nacho, who joined the club’s youth academy from Alcala de Henares at the age of 10, leaves at 34 with an impressive 26 trophies to his name.

This includes six Champions League and four La Liga title.

Nacho took over the captaincy following Marcelo’s exit, leading the team in his final two seasons.

Over his 12 seasons in the first team, he made 364 appearances, becoming a respected figure at the club.

“Since he arrived at our youth academy as a child, Nacho has been an example to everyone and has earned the affection, recognition and admiration of everyone at Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid are and always will be his home,” said President Florentino Perez in an official statement.

While Real Madrid has not confirmed his next move, Nacho is expected to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah, which recently earned promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

He is set to sign a two-year deal worth €20 million with the side.
