France’s national team coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed that star forward Kylian Mbappe will need surgery for a broken nose.
Speaking on L’Équipe de France’s social channel, Deschamps stated that while surgery is necessary, it is not planned immediately.
The injury occurred during France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria, when Mbappé collided with Kevin Danso late in the match.
Although France secured a 1-0 win, Mbappé left the stadium bleeding and was taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf.
Tests confirmed the nose fracture, but an urgent operation was not required.
Deschamps provided an update, saying, “Even if it won’t happen immediately, he should have an operation [on the nose].”
He reassured fans that Mbappé is “feeling better” despite the injury.
Mbappé’s return date is uncertain. He will miss the upcoming match against the Netherlands on Friday.
