Kroos says goodbye as Real Madrid held to goalless draw on final home game

Real Madrid played out a 0-0 draw against Real Betis in their final La Liga home game and Toni Kroos‘ last outing for the club.

The game served as a warm-up for their upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

With the Spanish title already in the bag, Carlo Ancelotti fielded his strong starting XI still.

Despite this, the Los Blancos struggled to break the deadlock.

The encounter saw Real Betis goal disallowed by VAR in the first half, while Vinicius Junior was denied a clear chance by Betis’ defense.

In the second half, Betis posed a greater threat, with Thibaut Courtois making two big saves to keep the score level.

In the dying moments, Kroos nearly scripted a perfect ending to his Real Madrid career, but his free kick was well saved.

Meanwhile, the match was marked by an emotional farewell for Kroos, who is set to retire this summer, after the Euro 2024 tournament.

The German midfielder received a heartwarming send-off from the fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.

With the match ending goalless, Ancelotti’s squad will travel to London on May 28 to finalize their preparations for the decisive UCL match against Borussia Dortmund.
