Manchester United’s teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo led the team to a shock FA Cup win against Manchester City at Wembley.
The match saw Garnacho taking advantage of a defensive mix-up between Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega to score into an empty net at the half-hour mark.
Nine minutes later, Mainoo doubled the lead with a stylish finish, capping off a slick move initiated by Garnacho and an exquisite first-time, no-look pass from captain Bruno Fernandes.
City, however, fought back strongly, but Andre Onana made several key saves to keep United ahead.
He denied Kyle Walker with a fine diving stop. Erling Haaland hit the crossbar and Julian Alvarez missed narrowly as City pressed for a response.
The breakthrough for City came in the 87th minute when Jeremy Doku’s shot from distance slipped through Onana’s hands, reducing the score at 2-1.
With seven minutes of added time, the tension was intense for United fans.
However, the Red Devils held their ground until the final whistle, securing a memorable 2-1 win.
The victory ensured Erik ten Hag’s men sealed their place in next season’s Europa League tournament, displacing Chelsea.
Chelsea who are still looking for a new manager, will now play the Conference League, while Newcastle will have no European competition next season, despite finishing seventh.
