Del Piero hails Real Madrid, Man City clash as “one of the greatest games ever”
Del Piero has hailed Tuesday night’s thrilling 3-3 draw between Real Madrid and Manchester City as “one of the best matches in the history of the Champions League.”
Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for City within the first two minutes.
However, by the 13th minute, Real Madrid had turned the tide, leading 2-1.
City once again took the lead at 3-2 after Josko Gvardiol’s strike in the 71st minute, only for Fede Valverde to equalize for the hosts eight minutes later.
Speaking as a pundit alongside former Champions League-winning coach Fabio Capello, Del Piero expressed his admiration for the game’s intensity and quality of play.
“It might have been one of the best matches in the history of the Champions League. Because of the level of play, because of the beauty of the goals.
“When you get matches of this magnitude, we tend to prepare ourselves for a tight encounter, but instead, we saw two teams tackling each other head-on,” Del Piero told TMW.
The stage is now set for the return leg at the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City will host Real Madrid on Wednesday, April 17.
