EPL: Everton set new English football record in late draw against Newcastle
Everton set a new English football record after drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United in the midweek edition of the English Premier League.
With their appearance in the top-flight clash, Everton have now set a new record for playing the most games in the top tier of English football.
They have a total of 4,700 matches since the debut season of the Football League in 1888.
They have maintained consistent presence in the English top-flight which has now seen over 121 seasons as of August 2023.
Meanwhile, Everton have continuously participated at the top level since 1954.
However, amidst this historic achievement, Everton find themselves grappling with a challenging season.
Despite their illustrious past, the Toffees currently languish in 16th place in the league table, with just four points above the relegation zone.
They successfully made a late equaliser during the Tuesday night clash against Newcastle, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring a penalty to level Alexander Isak’s first-half goal.
