FA Cup: Chelsea secure semi-final spot against Leicester with late drama
Chelsea picked their ticket in the FA Cup semi-finals with a 4-2 win over Leicester City, but not without some late drama.
The match started positively for the Blues, with Marc Cucurella opening the scoring in the 14th minute.
However, a missed penalty by Raheem Sterling kept the game within reach for Leicester.
Despite dominating possession, Chelsea’s lead was only doubled just before halftime when Cole Palmer tapped in a pass from Sterling.
The second half saw a rapid response from Leicester, with Chelsea’s Axel Disasi scoring an own-goal in the 51st minute.
It was followed minutes later with Stephy Mavididi’s strike, after dribbling through Malo Gusto.
With the match pegged at 2-2, some tactical changes made by Mauricio Pochettino handed Chelsea the win, including the addition of Carney Chukwumeka and Noni Madueke.
Palmer made a sleek backheel pass in a one-two combo with Chukwumeka, who slotted home with a powerful shot at close range.
Chelsea sealed the win with a spectacular lob from second substitute, Madueke, in added time.
The win comes as a relief for Chelsea, who suffered a last-gasp defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier recently.
