Guardiola reveals Walker remains City’s captain amidst marital scandal, as Haaland set for return

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Kyle Walker will continue as the club’s captain despite reports about his private life.

Guardiola emphasized that the decision to retain Walker as captain was made by the team, and not just him.

Speaking about Walker’s position as captain, Guardiola stated, “Absolutely, because it’s a decision for the team, not mine. I support him and his family and will not talk one word about players’ personal issues.”

This statement comes after Walker publicly apologized to his family for an extramarital affair.

The England defender who joined Manchester City in 2017, has been an integral part of the team’s success, winning 14 major trophies, including five Premier League titles.

Meanwhile, Guardiola also provided an update on striker Erling Haaland, confirming that the Norwegian forward is likely to make his return against Burnley after missing 10 games due to a foot injury.

“Erling will be selected. For the first time, he is back,” Guardiola said. “He has been out for two months, which is a long time, but he feels good,” he added.
