AFCON 2023: Mabululu’s screamer left Namibia in stitches as Angola surge to quarter-finals
Angola have secured their ticket for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-finals in Ivory Coast.
The Black Antelopes left Namibia in stitches after a 3-0 thriller, courtesy of Gelson Dala’s brace and Agostinho Cristovao Mabululu screamer in the second half.
Dala broke the deadlock for his side in the 38th minutes, shortly after his side were reduced to 10 men, following Adilson Neblu’s red card.
However, just before half time, it was Namibia’s turn to bag a red card, after Lubeni Haukongo got a second yellow.
Entering the second half with 10 men each, Angola continued to dominate, despite an earlier pressure into the half by Namibia.
Both sides had a couple of chances at goal but failed to convert.
The decisive moment came in the 66th minutes, when Mabululu curled from a tight corner into the bottom of the net, leaving Angola fans in awe.
It is the third time Angola is qualifying for the quarter-finals in their last history, and had to do it in style.
Mabululu was brilliant throughout the game, posing serious threat to the defense of Namibia who are now off the continental tournament.
