Bayern Munich suffer 1-0 defeat to Bremen, fall seven points behind Leverkusen
Bayern Munich faced setback in the Bundesliga after a 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen at home, leaving them seven points behind Bayer Leverkusen.
Mitchell Weiser’s goal sealed the victory for Bremen in a match where they initially had a goal disallowed.
The defeat has increased criticism of manager Thomas Tuchel whose recent comments about a German league investment deal sparked backlash from fans.
Tuchel’s remark that “it’s time for a home game again with enthusiasm” was met with disapproval.
This was evident in a banner displayed by the club’s fans reading, “A curve also thrives on protest and resistance – enthusiasm doesn’t come at the push of a button!”
Tuchel, who took over from Julian Nagelsmann last year, is under increasing pressure, especially after Bayern’s disappointing performance in the 2022/23 season.
Despite signing Harry Kane for £88 million, the team have started struggling to replicate their past successes.
Kane, who joined Bayern to win trophies, has faced disappointment with defeats in the German Super Cup and the DFB Pokal, despite having a good start to the season.
