Official: Timo Werner joins Tottenham on loan
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the loan signing of former Chelsea striker Timo Werner for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Werner joined Chelsea’s London rivals from RB Leipzig, with the agreement include a £15 million buy option, should Werner impress during the loan spell.
Werner who struggled to find his form at Chelsea after a £47.5 million transfer in 2020, returned to RB Leipzig for a minimal £25.3 million in 2022.
During his second stint at the club, he has scored 18 goals in 54 games.
It is reported that the promise of regular first-team football played a key role in Werner’s decision to join Tottenham.
According to Red Bull Soccer’s technical director, Mario Gomez, Werner’s transfer is a “win-win for everyone.
“Germany benefits from it. We benefit from it because we get a player going. He will play regularly, that’s what Tottenham has conveyed to us,” Gomez added.
