Late heartbreak: Mbappe slots in die-minute penalty to deny Newcastle epic win against PSG
Newcastle United were denied an epic victory against Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday night’s Champions League, after controversial penalty call.
The would have been remarkable victory, was marred by a late on-the-spot finish by star forward Kylian Mbappe, bringing the match to a 1-1 draw.
With Alexander Isak’s first-half goal, Newcastle transformed from the bottom of Group F to a potential second-place qualification.
But the draw, although not totally encouraging, keeps their hopes alive, while compounding their situation.
The Mbappe’s goal occurred deep into eight minutes of injury time when PSG was awarded a penalty for handball against Tino Livramento.
Newcastle, now third in their group, need a victory against AC Milan in the final game, and hope for a favourable result in the Borussia Dortmund vs. PSG fixture to secure a spot in the last 16.
