5 people summoned by court as Mercy Chinwo and husband take legal action over son’s paternity claims

The Abuja magistrate court has summoned 5 people for “criminal defamation” of the reputations of Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.

The five defendants were ordered by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna to appear in person before the court on April 23, 2023, to answer to the allegations leveled against them, in a court summons dated April 3, 2024.

Recall that some social media users made damming claims about the son of Mercy Chinwo after his face was revealed for the first time.

These social media users claimed that the child had a striking resemblance to gospel musician, Nathaniel Bassey.

The five persons named in the court summons include; Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.

Following the gospel singer and her husband’s Instagram photo of their son being uploaded last week, the defendants filed a paternity claim, which gave rise to the lawsuit.

According to a criminal complaint submitted by the complainants’ attorneys, Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based media firm Law Corridor, the defendants’ alleged activities amounted to cyberstalking, harmful falsehoods, and cyber intimidation directed at Mercy Chinwo and her spouse.

The complainants claimed that the defendants’ purported conduct violated Sections 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and Section 391 of the Penal Code.
