34-year-old retired goalkeeper to step in for Barcelona after Ter Stegen injury

Veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has confirmed that he is considering an offer from Barcelona, following Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s season-long knee injury.

The former Arsenal and Juventus star, who recently retired, is expected to step in as Barcelona searches for a new shot-stopper.

Szczesny addressed the situation in an interview with Sport, saying, “I respect Barcelona’s history a lot; it is one of the best clubs in the world.

“I understand the difficult situation that has been generated for them after the injury of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, and I think it’d be disrespectful if I didn’t consider this option.”

Reports suggest that Szczesny has already agreed to the move, where he would compete with Inaki Pena and Aster Astralaga for the starting position.

Fabrizio Romano also reports that the 34-year-old, “will come out of retirement to sign for Barça and replace ter Stegen on one year contract.

“Medical tests will take place in Spain in the next days,” he added.

Barcelona are expected to confirm his signing soon, with the possibility of Szczesny featuring in their weekend match against Osasuna.
