21-year-old woman falls into domestic well in Kwara, loses life

A 21-year-old woman identified as Hamudat lost her life after accidentally falling into a domestic well in the Pakata area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The tragic event took place at approximately 2:55 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Ile-Kangu Compound in the llorin West Local Government Area.

Hamudat, who was mentally handicapped, met her untimely demise after she slipped into the well, prompting a swift response from the Kwara State Fire Service.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the spokesperson for the state Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a somber statement.

Adekunle revealed that despite the immediate rescue efforts of the skilled firemen, Hamudat’s life could not be saved.

Her lifeless body was recovered from the well and subsequently handed over to her grieving father, Alhaji Suleiman Issa.

“Today, Saturday 5th August, 2023, a woman of about 21-years old called Hamudat of Ile-Kangu Compound, Pakata area Ilorin, llorin West Local Government Area Kwara State, fell into a domestic well and was recovered dead,” the statement conveyed.
“The terrible incident took place today at about 14:55hrs [02:55PM]
“The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a rescue operation at Ile Kangu Compound, Pakata area, Ilorin, where Hamudat, a mentally handicapped 21-year-old lady, had fallen into a domestic well
“The skilled firemen successfully recovered her and safely handed her over to her father, Alhaji Suleiman Issa
“The Director of Kwara State Fire Service Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa use this opportunity to advise the general public to prioritize safety, and to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and also desist from sending underage children to fetch water in domestic well.”
