2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Nigeria held to goalless draw by Rwanda
Nigeria played out a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their second AFCON 2025 qualifier encounter, with both sides failing to break the deadlock despite several opportunities.
The Super Eagles began with confidence, dominating possession through midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
However, their early attempts failed to find the back of the net, with Victor Boniface missing a clear chance in the 36th minute after a well-placed pass from Ademola Lookman.
Rwanda, backed by strong home support, showed resilience throughout the match.
Muhire Kevin and Innocent Nshuti kept pressing Nigeria’s defense, forcing key saves from goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Captain William Troost-Ekong also made crucial clearances to deny Rwanda’s threats.
Substitutions in the second half saw Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen introduced, but Nigeria struggled to capitalize on their fresh legs.
A standout moment came when Lookman’s goal was canceled for offside in the 23rd minute, leaving the Super Eagles frustrated.
Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Fiarce, played a vital role, making several critical saves, including a powerful drive from Lookman in the 14th minute.
Despite pressure from both sides, neither team could secure the win.
