2024 Olympics: Super Falcons break 16-year spell to qualify for Paris tournament
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after winning South Africa women 1-0 on aggregate.
The Nigerian women won Bayana Bayana 1-0 in the first leg of the encounter in Abuja last week.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade calmly slotted home from the spot, to give the Nigerian side an edge heading into the return leg.
The Super Falcons showed resilience in the second encounter in Pretoria, South Africa, holding their hosts to a goalless draw.
None of the sides could break the deadlock in the Tuesday evening clash in the capital city, but it was Nigeria that benefitted at the end of the day.
The Nigerian women have now qualified for the Olympic games for the first time since 2008.
Randy Waldrum’s girls are yet to win the Olympic medals, with their best run being in the quarter-finals, in 2004.
