18-year-old boy arraigned in court for ‘brutally assaulting’ security guard
An 18-year-old boy identified as Michael Segun has been arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a security guard with planks and bottles.
The incident took place on June 1, 2023, at Larryem Hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos. Segun, an unemployed teenager from the Captain area, was charged with conspiracy and assault.
During the court session held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, before Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, Police Prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem presented the case against the defendant.
Akeem alleged that Segun, in the company of his friends, brutally assaulted Mr. Shettima Ibrahim, a security guard at the hotel. The assault reportedly occurred after Ibrahim rebuked Segun for smoking Indian hemp within the hotel premises.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. The offences committed by Segun are said to contravene Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. In response, Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted Segun bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties required to provide a similar amount.
The case has been adjourned until August 2, 2023, for mention, as the legal process continues.
