Manchester United end season with lowest ever EPL finish despite 2-0 win over Brighton

Manchester United ended their ‘disappointing’ Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Brighton on Sunday.

However, the campaign will go down in the history books as their lowest ever league finish since the beginning of the tournament in 1992.

Although second-half goals from Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund provided relief for Erik ten Hag’s side, the win was not enough to change their many struggles this sesosn.

United finishing eighth, is their worst ever in the Premier League era.

Newcastle’s victory at Brentford meant that eighth was the highest position United could achieve, regardless of their result.

This finish surpasses the previous low of seventh place set in 2014, following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

A particularly sad statistic was United’s goal difference, ending the season at -1, marking the first time since the 1989-90 season that the club has finished with a negative goal difference.

The disappointing season also included a record 14 Premier League defeats.

However, they still stand a chance for a European qualification when they face Manchester City at Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup final on May 25.
