PL2: Leicester match against Newcastle abandoned as foxes staff was rushed to hospital

The Premier League 2 clash between Leicester and Newcastle Under-21s was abandoned on Friday due to a medical emergency.

The incident which was disclosed in a statement from Leicester City, confirmed that the incident involved one of their member of staff.

“We can confirm that the evening’s PL2 fixture between Leicester City Under-21s and Newcastle United Under-21s at Seagrave was abandoned due to a medical emergency involving a member of LCFC staff.

“The staff member has been transferred to the hospital, and we await further updates on his condition,” the club added.

Newcastle United also made a statement regarding the unfortunate incident, “Our thoughts are with the Leicester City staff member following tonight’s PL2 fixture.”

Meanwhile, a follow-up statement from Leicester City provided a positive update, stating that the member staff has been released for full recovery at home.

“We are pleased to report that, following examination by on-site medics, the staff member has been released from observation to recover at home,” it read.

The club expressed its gratitude to Newcastle United, match officials, and on-duty medical staff for their support and care.

The Sun UK stated that before the abandonment, the score was tied at 2-2.

Leicester Will Alvarez scored within five minutes of the match. Christopher Popov doubled their lead, but Newcastle’s Dylan Stephenson responded with two quick goals.

The incident left Newcastle in the 17th spot in the PL2 Division 1 table with eight points, while Leicester remained in the 20th position with seven points.
