Former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales detained by authorities

Upon his return to Spain, former RFEF President Luis Rubiales was taken into custody by Spanish authorities for questioning.

Recall Rubiales had been in the news late August last year, for kissing a Spanish female football player Jenni Hermoso, during their title win celebration.

However, his questioning this time is part of ‘Operation Brody,’ an investigation into alleged corruption within the Spanish Football Federation, reports Football Espana.

Rubiales has strongly denied any involvement in corrupt activities during his time in charge, insisting on the legitimacy of his business dealings and the origin of his assets.

Meanwhile, he had been conducting business in the Dominican Republic until police raided his residence there, prompting his return to Spain.

Upon his arrival at the airport, the Spanish anti-corruption unit boarded his plane to interrogate him.

Subsequently, Rubiales was seen leaving the airport in a police van awaiting him on the runway.

This incident follows a recent police raid on the RFEF headquarters, during which six individuals were brought in for questioning, and five others were placed under suspicion.

Additionally, Rubiales faces separate legal charges, including the allegations of sexual assault for kissing and coercing Hermoso, for which he is scheduled to stand trial.

He has refuted these accusations as well, denying any wrongdoing.
