Bundesliga: Bayern Munich make an offer to Chelsea for Kepa Arrizabalaga

German champions, Bayern Munich have submitted an official offer to Chelsea for goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Sky Germany reported that Bayern Munich are keen to sign a new “keeper this summer after selling Yann Sommer to Inter Milan, while Manuel Neuer is recovering from a broken leg”. It’s been reported that Bayern Munich made a season-long loan offer for Kepa, with a subsequent purchase option.

According to Transfermarkt, the current market value for Kepa is €18 million, so it’s likely that Chelsea would ask for a fee around that number, if not higher, if Bayern Munich is to pursue the buy-on option if this loan deal is eventually agreed upon by both clubs.

Kepa has previously worked with Thomas Tuchel when he was manager of Chelsea and it’s understood that he wants the Spaniard to come to Bayern to stand in for Neuer in the beginning phases of the season.

Bayern could also be facing competition from Real Madrid, as they’re also now in the market for a new keeper given the cruciate ligament injury to Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois. Bayern is convinced by Kepa’s quality and it’s no surprise that he’s the club’s number one target at the keeper position at this current juncture.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would entertain any offers for Kepa, who is set to go into the new season as Mauricio Pochettino’s No 1.

Chelsea sold Edouard Mendy to Al Ahli this summer, with Robert Sanchez signed from Brighton for £25m to compete with Kepa.

Arrizabalaga was signed from Athletic Club in 2018 for €80 million (£71m/$88m), the highest fee ever paid for a keeper. He has struggled for form and game time at Chelsea over the years and under Tuchel, the German manager preferred Edouard Mendy as his first-choice pick.
