Peter Obi explains his absenteeism at Labour Party’s national convention
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last 2023 presidential election has shared his thoughts on why he did not attend the party’s recent national convention.
Taking to his official X handle, he explained his reasons for not being present at the convention, which saw Barr Julius Abure emerge as the party’s national chairman.
Addressing Nigerians on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Obi said he ignored the convention because the LP leadership under Abure failed to do wide consultation with key stakeholders of the party before embarking on the said convention.
The former Anambra Governor emphasized the need for the right thing to be done to salvage the party, adding that he is more passionate about building a new Nigeria than building a new Labour Party.
Recall that Abure was re-elected for a second term by unanimous affirmation of delegates at the convention despite the protests by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress( NLC).
The Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu declared him the winner during the party’s national convention that held in Nnewi, Anambra State.
