It is no secret that Yoruba people value ‘respect’ and it is a significant part of their tradition. During their weddings, one of the requirements is for the groom to pay respect to the bride’s family by prostrating (lying down flat facing downward).

The groom and all his friends are expected to lie flat in their clothes. It is a test of humility as well as a dramatic display of a long-standing tradition.
