Amazing Aerial Views Of Africa’s ‘Gateway to Hell’ Volcano

Did you know Africa has the “Smoking Mounting?”

Inside Africa in Ethiopia,  Etra Ale volcano is one of the world’s oldest continuously active lava lakes. It’s called the “Gateway to Hell” which reaches searing temperatures exceeding 1,100 degrees Celsius.

The Etra Ale which means ‘Smoking Mounting ‘Volcano is notable for holding the longest-existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century (1906). And just so you know, it’s lava lakes are very rare: there are only six in the world.

These amazing but scary pictures were taken by Spanish photographer Joel Santos using the spectacular light show heat-proof cameras from close-by.

Jeez, I don’t even want to think about how he achieved these but they are amazing all the same.
