Arsenal’s late winner not enough as Manchester City claim Premier League title

Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Everton was insufficient to stop Manchester City’s, who secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The Gunners needed a win and a favour from West Ham to clinch the title.

However, City’s early lead against West Ham dashed those hopes.

Phil Foden’s quick strike after just 79 seconds and his second goal at 18 minutes set the tone that helped City cruise past the Hammers.

Things worsened for Arsenal when Idrissa Gueye’s free-kick deflected off Declan Rice’s head, leaving goalkeeper David Raya helpless and giving Everton the lead just before halftime.

But Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu equalized three minutes after, offering a glimmer of hope for the hosts.

The Emirates reportedly roared when news broke of Mohammed Kudus pulling a goal back for West Ham, briefly raising Arsenal fans’ hopes.

However, Rodri’s goal on the hour mark for City, cleared any doubts, rendering Arsenal’s efforts worthless.

Although Kai Havertz scored a controversial late winner for Arsenal which was ruled goal by VAR, it was not enough to cancel the already done damage.
